Becoming an early riser and making the most of each morning is about striving to get the most out of your life - including getting a good night’s sleep! You can use these positive and healthy morning rituals to take command of your day, your wellbeing, and your happiness.
1. Tea Meditation
Yes, you read that right! Most of us are probably already familiar with the concept of starting our day with a cup of tea, but this kind of morning ritual makes it a little different. It’s called Tea Meditation!
To do tea meditation, you simply need to do every part of the tea making and tea drinking process with mindfulness. Take your time making your tea with mindfulness- heat up your water, get your cup out, pour the water, and sift the tea. Then, take your tea and sit down in a quiet place with it. Drink your tea like there's no tomorrow. Drinking this tea is the most important thing in the world!
When you sit down with your tea, after each cup you pour you could try bringing awareness to the taste, sensations and feelings that the tea brings you. It probably feels warm and comforting - so bring your attention to that!
Try closing your eyes and practicing deep breaths between each sip. This mindfulness practice will probably 5-10 minutes from start to finish by drinking only one small cup and drinking at a moderately slow pace. The Goodnight Co. has a specially formulated Good Morning Tea which is perfect for this ritual.
2. Keep A Journal
Keeping a journal has all kinds of benefits. There are a couple different ways you can choose to keep a journal, the first notable way being to note all the good things that happened on a given day, however small. This form of keeping a journal can help to increase your confidence, make you happier, and give you better perspective during days that seemed tough and unproductive. This kind of journal is what most people would call “gratitude journaling”.
Another way of keeping a journal is through mindfulness call a mindful journal. It's essentially keeping a journal and noting down any thoughts or feelings you have throughout your day. You don't have to note down everything, mostly just those things which were unexpected or needed some introspection, but keeping a journal in this way can be a great partner to your meditation practice.
The best thing about journaling is that no one has to read it, so you can really feel free to write whatever’s on your mind. Just 5 minutes of free flowing thoughts on paper each morning is enough to leave you feeling empowered! If you’re new to journalling, you can make your start with The Goodnight Co’s. Journal Kit.
3. Make Your Bed
It might not seem like the most appealing of the list, but making your bed is a mindful routine that helps enhance a room’s overall aesthetic, making it feel more inviting upon your return. It also takes little to no time - ideal for those of us in a hurry, looking to implement a little ritual on a schedule.
While the actual act might not leave you feeling very profound, making your bed means you have accomplished the first task of the day, helping you walk out of your room knowing you have achieved something. You feel more inclined to complete another task after this, giving you a growing sense of motivation and self confidence!
